Today, We Give Thanks for Simple Goodness
It’s important on this glorious day in American history that we take just a few second to give thanks for one of Western Civilization’s greatest inventions – the Oreo cookie. That’s right, 100 years ago today; Nabisco unveiled their version of two chocolate cookies around a white cream filling (Hydrox – essentially the exact same thing – had been around for four years).
I know that this time of year we are all caught up in Girl Scout Cookie Mania. And that’s all well and good, but Girl Scout Cookies are like the crazy girlfriend of the cookie family. Girl Scout cookies show up, are great for a month and then vanish, leaving you miserable and missing them. Oreos are ALWAYS there for you, 24/7/365.
So whether you eat them whole, split them in half and eat the filling first, if you prefer them as pie, or chocolate covered, and even if you eat just the filling and then throw the cookies away, lift a glass (of milk, of course) and celebrate the sweet deliciousness of the Oreo.
Now would also be an outstanding day to finally forgive Oreo for those horrible Oreo Racing League Manning Brother commercials. Find it in your heart to forgive.
